Boise schools have professional and dedicated educators. As an elementary school volunteer, I have seen firsthand this commitment to the students and their willingness to go beyond what is expected.
But I believe we can do more to support this army of hard-working teachers.
First, we need to express publically our appreciation for their loyalty, dedication and hard work. We can do this by giving them support when they identify needs in students, and perhaps, point out areas for improvement. Teachers deserve our respect and gratitude.
Second, we need more volunteers willing to spend time in the classrooms; especially in the elementary grades. Those who may be retired or have time (even a couple hours a week) can come to class and read with students; help them learn comprehension; strengthen simple math skills. I know the teachers will appreciate you, and the students will express their gratitude. If we no longer work, we now can volunteer.
